Tools for Schools

Practical skills. Real projects. A chance to discover what you can do.

Plumbing, plastering and DIY workshops that help pupils apply their learning, build confidence and explore careers in the trades.

Learning by doing

Bring classroom learning into a real workshop

We work with school staff to agree activities that suit pupils’ ages, abilities and learning needs. Our local pilot focuses on schools around our Deeside centre.

Plumbing

Measure and cut pipe, build simple projects using push-fit and compression fittings, and explore how household plumbing works.

Plastering & decorating

Prepare surfaces, explore plastering techniques and practise finishing skills through tasks agreed for the group.

DIY & property maintenance

Explore introductory carpentry, skirting, laminate flooring and everyday repairs. Activities depend on the session and pupils’ needs.

Skills for learning, work and everyday life

Maths with a purpose

Use measuring, marking out, lengths, areas and material quantities to solve a practical problem.

Confidence through making

Give pupils an opportunity to experience success by completing a practical task, including those who find classroom learning challenging.

Working together

Practise appropriate tool use, communication, teamwork, planning and problem-solving while exploring trade careers.

A session shaped with your school

  1. Tell us about your group. Share year groups, approximate numbers, your aims and preferred dates.
  2. Agree the plan. We discuss activities, duration, supervision, accessibility and a tailored quotation.
  3. Learn in the workshop. Use supporting worksheets and recorded learning outcomes, or focus more heavily on practical participation where that better supports engagement.
  4. Review together. Pupil and teacher feedback helps us assess the session and plan any future visits.

Our first Tools for Schools visit took place on 12 October 2026. We are now inviting local schools to discuss paid pilot sessions and regular provision.

Planning your visit

Who is it for?

We welcome enquiries for pupils aged 11 and over. Activities, group size and suitability are agreed with school staff before a booking is confirmed.

School arrangements

Request a sample lesson plan, workshop risk assessment and insurance information. Safeguarding, supervision and accessibility arrangements are agreed with your school.

Fees & funding

Sessions are quoted individually according to the agreed programme. Ask about funding or sponsorship possibilities; funded places are subject to support being secured.

These are introductory practical skills workshops. They do not award an NVQ or City & Guilds qualification.

Let’s plan a practical learning experience

Enquire about a school visit

Tell Mike your school name, year group, approximate pupil numbers, activities of interest and preferred dates. You can also arrange a staff visit to discuss the facilities.
